V-TV is Virtually Chatty!

The V-TV Crew

The V-TV Crew

We live on the cusp of interoperability. An ability that will one day be the standard of all virtual worlds. We will port from place to place, from experience to experience; Yes, Fashionistas, even from store to store. 3D worlds will replace web pages, which will have become as obsolete as an 8 track player. You will move through the net as a traveler through space… not surfing via your web browser. We are seeing threads of this today, and an Exhibit called V-TV by Misprint Thursday (Love that name!) Oberon Onmura and Cinco Pizzacato explores that possibility in a simple concept.

The Data Room

The Data Room

You are dropped into a black box that is filed with bits of floating data- seems simple enough. There is a box in the center that, once clicked, tells you that it has it’s own email address. Flipping to your browser you can send it an email and the text of that email appears above the box in Second Life. When I arrived, someone had submitted a lovely poem! It is one world talking to another. It is a beautiful example of the very beginning of this futuristic concept.

Cyber Octopus World!

Cyber Octopus Story

Cyber Octopus Story

I kid you not! This is a tremendously innovative exhibit by Kyota Spitteler that is as intriguing as it is fantastical. The history of her exhibit focuses on a Marine Life that, in a clever addition to the Dallier’s Hope ethos, was brought to The Rock with the first pioneers. The Octopus adapted to the Marine Life by developing a thick skin which retained it’s moisture in an unnatural environment, and then further evolved into a species called Mother Octopuses (Or is it Octopi?!) Whatever, I’ll just affectionately call the one on display “OctoMom!”

A Mother Octopus Youngling

These evolved creatures developed a sort of kinship with their human counterparts on the New World, living in harmony with one another. Featuring a great Octomom with her tentacles outspead, you can even walk up to her and give her thoughtful smooch if you’re inclined!

A Gentle Mother Octopus

Kyota has also created a great machinima about her SL6B exhibit which tells the story of their journey to the future! Make sure you stop and visit Cyber Octopus World today!

Virtual Life in a Virtual World

Virtual Life in a Virtual World

Welcome to the Post human World! That is the concept of the New Life, a phenomenal Exhibit on Dallier’s Hope by Jenne Dibou that explores the concepts of a future existence and the preservation of the past. It’s a bit like discovering a cave tucked away somewhere in a remote recesses of the shadows, someplace long forgotten. Guarded by “monks” who look like celestial representatives of some New Life Cult. you enter a through a tunnel and are met with mysterious artifacts of world gone well before you arrived.

A New Life Monk

Take a look at a frozen man; Bob: the last cryo-patient transhuman… and one thing you DON’T Want to miss is the the spinning object in the very center of the cave that invite YOU to join the New Life, where you are presented with Red Pill/Blue Pill scenario – Join the New Life, or resist! Bob himself may indeed not be dead, one must wonder if now he thrives a s a conscious digital entity, traversing the information superway and heading up the recruitment of New Life Members!

Furries and Tinies and Elves, Oh My!

If Second Life has a “killer app”, it’s not Windlight, or Voice, or a virtual economy, it is the communities that thrive within the confines of our shared digital world. Communities are what drives people to come back to a place, and can give someone a virtual home where otherwise their time inworld could just be a rather lonely experience.

Dalliers Hope is proud to have three of the oldest communities within Second Life represented here with us. Luskwoodelfcircleraglan

Please take a moment to go and discover and meet with these great tribes of Second Life!

I’ll let the pictures and links do the work, as your job here is to go and find out. Thank you for being here with us, Luskwood, ElfCircle and Raglan Shire!
